The Start Of Civilization

 THE START OF CIVILIZATION

Do you think that our world was always big cities with tall buildings? Well it wasn't! Millions of years back people were focusing on settling into places with rich land and would even follow their food (animals). They would also focus on farming and producing as much food as possible. Farming was quiet a challenge back then because they didn't have machines like we do know. They would have to work everyday, whole day to produce food which would last for the whole year round. When you harvest lots of food and have a big supply you would call it surplus. If you have lots of surplus the population will grow which means that you will need to produce even more surplus which would keep the population growing. If you would live on hunting animals you wouldn't be able to supply food for the whole year and wouldn't be able to have a surplus which would cause you to have less children and keep the population from growing. But if you had surplus of meat and other food then you could have multiple children and feed them all year long! You see about 10,000 yeas back the whole worlds population was 5 million ONLY!!!!!!!! Why do you think that was? Well it was because people based their lives on hunting and gathering. Hunting and gathering would not supply enough food which would stop the population from growing. But then another 3,000 years later people figured that out and started to settle into places with rich land and started farming. With farming, hunting and gathering their population grew up to 20,000 million people! Because the population kept expending villages because towns, and because of food surplus people didn't have to spend all their free time farming and harvesting more food but could do other things such as making tools, pottery etc. Cities developed on places with rich land and soil but that wasn't all that you needed. You would also need water, and many many materials to build shelter for yourself!!! Most people would build their cities next to rivers where they would have access to clean and fresh water. Cities where much different from villages because they also had public buildings. Public buildings would usually be buildings for storing food, church, or even the market. People who worked in a village would mostly be farmers but when you lived in a city you had more options to choose from. While people developed their cultures and ways of life the cities started to expand which meant that a city would need a leader to set the rules and keep the society calm and organized. That is why governments started to form. The New Stone Age grew into societies and civilizations. They would have leaders, and many different jobs to choose form. Around 6600 B.C. which is when people in Europe and Asia discovered bronze! When they discovered bronze the Bronze Age occurred. Bronze was much better then cooper because it was much harder and it lasted a lot longer. They would use it to make weapons, tools or even pottery. People would also trade things amongst each other. People who had pottery, tools or weapons would exchange them for food and meat that they needed in order to create a surplus. Pottery, tools and weapons were their money. In about 3500 B.C. another amazing thing happened! People invented the wheel and a stone axle! The two tools made it easier to carry more things at once and be more successful in hunting. Know do you know what social classes are? Well those are large groups of people with a similar background. In many large cities their king would control the city and be the most powerful. Under the kind there would be the priests because of the religion and then other politicians. The 3 class would be traders and at the end you would have the farmers and workers. After all those there is the lowest class of slaves which are bought or owned by other higher class people. This is everything that you would need to know about the start of covilization!
